Meeexiko
Maerz will ich endlich in Suedamerika ankommen. Over & out Martin - noch in Cancun
-------- Ingles, by google translate with a lot of corrections and still not a good read --------------
Just before my birthday I met Matthias & Anja in Cancun, who came to visit me from Germany for 3 weeks to travel with me. We spent my birthday in Tulum, our first stop out of Cancun. My birthday present of the two was the world famous dive in the cenote Dos Ojos, one of the most incredible dives I have ever made! Luckily there was a professional photographer so we actually have pictures of us three! (sorry only one picture atm, I gave them the cd with the pcitures)
On the last night my hiking sandals that I had since Vang Vieng (Laos) were stolen so in Chetumal, a not so pretty provincial capital, I had to find shoes, no problem, because obviously every 2nd Shop in Mexico, is a shoe shop. I found a couple of Chucks, unfortunately, they fall apart already.
In Palenque we then saw our first "real" Maya ruins, Tulum was in comparison very small.
We took a night bus to the edge of the central highlands to visit the ruins in Palenque. The trip went well, so we waited with the first tour buses at 8 before the entrance. Since we did not like the city in the morning we booked another night bus for 11 o'clock on the same dayt to Campeche. We spent the whole morning in the ruins and only returned to town in the afternoon, 2 or 3 hours in the ruins really is enough. The second night bus was late so that we only left at 2 o´clock, at this point the mood was slightly stimulated (says google, I say we were pissed!) by 5 we were already in Campeche and so tired that we were no more able to bargaining. However, we found a nice room directly opposite the church (see photo) and after a round of sleep, the world was right again.
The next day, Campeche has besides its forts and the old town not much to offer, we spontaneously decided to look at the ruins in Uxmal. It did not work directly, we first had to go to Merida, in our travel plan, the second colonial city.
The ruins at Uxmal were really nice, mainly because of the very few people there.
In Merida, we destroyed a swarm of shrimps on the local fish market as we gefuttert (munched) our way through the menu of a small sandwich stall. The two ladies had the time of their lives as we ordered round after round.
From Merida, we went to Chichen Itza, unfortunately it started to drizzle (!!) all day but still we went to the Light & Sound Show in the evening. It was mainly an outline of the mayan history and there were no translators available and everything was in Spanish.
The last week we spent on the island of Cozumel, a diver's paradise with the second largest reef in the world (after the Great Barrier Reef, of course). The reef extends practically from Belize to Cuba and on Cozumel offers dozens of dive sites of which we unforntunately could afford only 4:)
Today Matthias & Anja had to fly home andso I am back in Cancun after 3 weeks. The city has still not opened up to me, so I leave tomorrow morning to Belize. I still lack a guide or a map but I can not find one in Cancun, so it will be a trip into the unknown, urgh!
Summarizing 3 weeks in a post is not great, I hope to write more regularly in Belize. Though I wont stay there for long, I'm looking up flights from Guatemala to Peru. I want to fly between 10. and 20. March and I will finally arrive in South America! As I have promised my Sister to return for Pentecost (* sing * Martin traveled recently on Pentecost to Nagold was his goal:) (german folk song)) I just realized that I do not have much time left. Over & out Martin - still in Cancun

Jungel Trekking
Die Realitaet war passend zum asiatischen slogan - same same, but different - toll!

The Description on the Internet sounded fantastic: sleeping in the jungle, trekking on the Ho-Chi-Min trail. The reality matched the asian slogan - same same but different - it was great!
After 5 Minutes my left shoe, I bought them in Phnom Phen, broke. The sole split away from the rest at the first sight of water. Luckily it was only 5 more minutes to the village where we slept the first night. As our guide prepared dinner and the other participants chatted happily I fixed the boots. The village is building a new hut so I asked them for nails and ... nailed my shoes :)
The next morning we set off for the Ho-Chi-Min trail I only had to fix the boots 3 times until lunch. After lunch we went to unexplored territory and the first river crossing did not take long. That was something the shoes really didn't like so they split also in front now. Luckily someone had a pair of spare shoelace with which we tied the soles to the shaft.
We spent the second night deep in the jungle, and thats where I saw most of the animals: mainly ants that bite us everywhere, huge spiders and leeches. Each of us had at least 3 leeches on our feet and some in very special places. After I tried to remove my first one with a lighter and burned myself more than I hurt the leech we started to copy our guide who just picked them from his skin. For day 3 we resolved to try the leechsocks, then we climbed in our hammocks which have a integrated mosquito-net to keep away all those critters.
In the morning I have to re-tie my shoes to fit the leechsocks and still it is a very tight fit. When the guide tells me about the plan for today it is obvious to me that we won't arrive before sunset especially because he allows us to be slow during breakfast, but hey that's his Problem :)
We had lunch at a wonderful waterfall, in the lake beneath I had swim! Later we go to the sightseeing mountain where I use mobile internet to post on facebook (hooray to technology!).
The last campsite is on a river bank and whitout bugs, not even mosquitoes to pester us next to the water. The place is prepared so we basically just hang our hammocks in the darkness of the night.
Over night my small toe got a nice blister so that I am really glad for the short last day - after 3 hours in the still wet boots we arrive at the boat.
The trip was amazing but I am not going to buy shoes in this country again!

Winter in Kambodscha
English (thanks to google translate, what a mess next time I write it myself again):
Yesterday I was again at the temples of Angkor Wat. This time with the bike so I could explore all the lesser-known place where I was practically alone, I felt like Indiana Jones when I climbed over crumbling temples!
One local resident has told me at the moment is winter and when it rained around noon I was so with the wet T-shirt sitting on the bike, I must say, it had been me shivered. The temperature should be here by the usual 33 degrees to 28 or even 25 degrees determined to have fallen!
Today I drove the bus to Kratie, from here tomorrow, I will travel further into the remote Banlung experience long by 3 days jungle. For far too much money will I walk in Virachey National Park, stay overnight and kayaking. After all, the coal goes to the parking lot attendant who can seemingly do more about this when I am back:)

Angkor What?
English:
Today I was at Angkor from 7 to sunset, I bought a 3 day pass which is a waste of time, should have listened to the friends I met yesterday (hello Dana&Ced!) but now that I have it I go back for sunrise pictures tomorrow.

Bilder

Since my backpack was stolen I didn't find the time to review the images. I did this now and because it is a lot of images I only post links this time:

There's a lot of images on Japan in general:
Japan
And the first impressions of Cambodia, mainly the Killing Fields

I decided it's time to finally resume writing in english so: you might have heard my backpack was stolen in Japan about 5 days ago. on my last night in Japan I had the luck to couchsurf with Jodie in Fukuoka from him I got the nice pullover in the first picture. the rest I boughtin Phnom Penh and now that I have a backpack again I feel like a completely new person. To show you the new me I put together the pictures. Obviously the room was to small so my head did not fit anymore :)
